The central purpose of the Maine Civics Network is to engage educators and students in enriching and enlivening student’s learning of democratic principles and the skills and attitudes necessary for successful civic participation.

  

All educators – teachers, ed techs, coaches, counselors, administrators – shape students’ sense of responsibility to others and for themselves.  We all influence the lessons our students’ learn about how to participate in our society and political system.  Beyond the standard curriculum, service learning, environmental education, student government, and all student activities offer opportunities for deeper civics learning. These opportunities, however, often go by the wayside because the effort required to innovate is simply too taxing for most busy school staff.  MCN’s mission is to redress this deficiency in our professional learning environment.
